Grubenotter mit Fokus auf ihren Beobachter

About This Project

The stare of this snake captures me time and again. I took this picture in the Butterfly Garden of the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia.

These snakes have a sensory organ between the eyes and nostrils that works as an infrared detector. This highly sensitive pit organ detects thermal images of prey and predators much like an infrared camera would.

The original is ready for download in high resolution onShutterstock.
